An amazing experience of Ssese as told by a Trip Advisor Traveler
3 weeks ago we returned from a fantastic trekking safari in East Africa which included 4 nights stay at Brovad Sands lodge, the new lodge on ssese islands. It was our 1st time in Africa and we have always wanted to do a trekking trip in Africa. After all the trekking in Kilimanjaro, mt.Kenya, Rwezori mountains, nyarangogo + game safaris, boat cruises ,double gorilla tracking in Uganda and Rwanda but we missed out Congo due to security reasons none of us could cross to Congo though we wanted to.
The new Brovad sands lodge is spacious with large bed & mosquito nets, large bathroom with bath & shower. Our room was fantastic, really clean and overlooking Lake Victoria and the beach!! During our stay a monkey came and lay down alongside our deck whilst we were sunbathing! At breakfast we were able to meet up with all of the other guests and hear their ideas of what to do around the island and we decided to take a fishing trip and the next we had a forest walk.
The main restaurant had such a wide choice of food that we didn't even need to try the food from nearby lodges and on our last night we had a night beach BBQ which. My full trip report will be posted soon..

Ssese Islands in Uganda still remains a destination of choice for anyone seeking a weekend place to unwind, relax near Lake Victoria. The Ssese Islands is an archipelago of 84 small islands on Lake victoria and the most developed still stands out as the Bugala Islands, where majority of the Ssese Island hotels are situated. The Bugala Island is also where we find the Kalangala District head quarters. The island is well developed with banking system available and Electricity is also available.
There is a long stretch of beach line shared by most of the hotels in Ssese islands most notably the Brovad Sands Lodge, Mirembe resort, Ssese Islands club and Ssese islands beach hotel. All you need to know about Uganda before you travel for your honeymoon
What’s the weather like?
Uganda enjoys a tropical climate, though the heat is tempered by the altitude, as much of the country is more than 1000m above sea level. Rainy seasons are from march to may, and September
Dry seasons are from December to February and mid August
Average temperature range from about 16c(61f)in the southwestern highland to 25c(77f)in the northwest; but in the northeast, temperatures exceed 30c(86f).
What Should I Bring
General
Daypack.
High SPF Sunscreen (Uganda is not equator).
Flashlight.
Insect repellent.
Spare of rechargeable batteries (these are difficult to find once you are in the pack)
Water proof bags to protect equipment.
Electric plug adaptors for 240 volts AC 50 HZ.Uk-style square-pin plugs are used.
Some people find contact lenses uncomfortable in Uganda becouse of dust-you may find it more comfortable to wear glasses while on the road.
Antiseptic hand wash.
An international Driving license if you are thinking of hiring a vehicle.
Clothing
Good walking boots/shoes.
Sandals or other light shoes
Water pool jacket or rain poncho.
Lighter clothing for Kampala and the savannah, with layer for the cooler evenings
Warm clothing for mountainous region, including thermal layers and a fleece.
Sun hat/cap.
Uganda is a conservative county, and visitors should dress respectfully. Avoid shit skirts and short shorts.
Should I Bring any Specialist Equipment?
This depends on your interests- for photography, birding and wildlife enthusiasts we recommend the following.
Binoculars; The better ones start at about $250 you get what you pay for! Water proof binoculars are great in Uganda as they also dustproof. For most travelers stick with 8 or 10 magnification and 32 objective. These will be lighter than the 42 objectives which are heavy to carry all day.
Cameras: choose something which you know you can handle-a heavy camera with many settings will be off-putting for some people to use .For good wildlife shots, get at least 8x optical zoom. Six to eight megapixels is fine unless you what poster-size photos ,Bring a lens cloth to remove dust, several changes of batteries (even if you use rechargeable-not all sites have power points) and take several 1GB memory cards instead of one large one, to avoid losing all your photos if something goes wrong, especially during your Uganda Safaris experience.
Do I Need a visa to Enter Uganda?
For most nationalities including the USA.UK Canada, Australia, and Ireland,90- day tourist visas can be purchased on arrival at Entebbe airport for $50, or at the Uganda Embassy in your home county prior to departure.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months following the date of entry.
As visa regulations change frequently, please check with the Ugandan Embassy in your county before departure.
What is the Currency?
The Ugandan shilling. This cannot be purchased outside the county.
How do I Exchange Cash?
US dollars, UK pounds and Euros are accepted by UWA for gorilla/chimp tracking permits and park entry fees. Many larger hotels will also accept US dollars and Euros-though you should check in advance.
Note; All US Dollars must be printed post-2003, and should not be damaged in any way. Higher exchange rates are given on larger value notes Banks and forex bureaus will exchange cash alternatively you can use ATM machines-common in the major towns. They should accept visa debit and credit cards.
Can I use Credit o debit Cards?
Visa is more widely accepted in city hotels and stores, following by Master cards. Other credit cards are unlikely to work.
Alert your bank before using your card abroad to avoid it being blocked.

Exciting Activities on the Nile this Festive season

If pure relaxation, water rafting, bungee jumping, kayaking, horse rides and a chance to complete de-stress is what you need to make this festive season a memorable one, then take a trip to the source of the Nile and explore what the Nile has to offer.
Well known to be the longest river in the world. Its source starts right from Jinja Uganda, some people may be wondering how the name Nile come about. It’s a famous Greek word simply meaning valley. The river starts from the Northeastern part of Africa. It flows from the surrounding areas close the equator to the outrageous Safari desert and up to the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The source of the Nile has been associated and known for its grade 5 white water rafting and i know many of you may think that’s all the Nile has to offer but am here to tell you that you better hold your sparks. The Nile offers a wide range of river and riverbank adventure activities which include water rafting, bungee jumping, Kayaking, boat rides, sport fishing, gorilla jetting, horseback rides as well as a Nile cruise to the bottom of the Nile.
A few kilometers further, is Bujagali Falls, the adventurer’s capital with grade-five white water rafting, kayaking, river boarding and mountain-biking. These activities offer a unique way to explore the river banks, passing through farms, forests and villages beside the Nile.
Up along the Nile’s course is Lake Kyoga which also feeds the river with fresh water. The course then leads you to the great Murchison Falls, where roars of millions of litres of water dropping form a lullaby. Activities such as spot fishing, game drives and scenic viewing can make your festive holiday an exciting one.
